Whew..

a lot of lessons learnt by the entire "Save Indian Family" fiasco.

I expected them to come and spam my blog, to completely ignore what I said, to be idiotic and belligerent, and to make asses of themselves.

They did all that and their comments vindicated my post. Not one of them bothered to comment on what I said about them. Instead, they went on and on about 498a and how the "evil feminists" are destroying their sukhi parivar.

Any sane, unbiased person visiting my blog would have read my assessment of them and the proof of my assessment. Well, it is all there for them to see.

But along the way, I have a few observations about these guys. One of them is that they are desperate to get more and more people to support them. They are impatient and want to get back at their spouses by de-teething the law that got them in trouble. Thus to assuage their male ego, perhaps? That is why they are spamming everywhere - on blogs, newsgroups, etc. Little do they realise that this is not going to work and they are going to attract people like themselves and that does not worry me at all. That is why they went on a streak, posting and re-posting the same thing over and over again. Perhaps they believe in the idea that if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes a truth.

Then they started to get people to write first-hand accounts of their sob stories. On how their wives/daughter-in-laws have ruined their lives for apparently no reason. A change in strategy? Oh yes, because first-hand sob stories are so believable. The thing about such stories is that they never find faults in the person telling the story. The protagonist is always the victim who would "never hurt a fly". Secondly, even if the person had in fact harassed their daughters-in-law, they would never accept it (why would they; very few culprits confess the crime). The daughter-in-law who fights back becomes an evil person for them and they never see the evil in themselves. Every person thinks that s/he could do no wrong and that their beliefs and ideas should be the law (heck, sometimes I think that too, though I try to keep an open mind). Plus, in the internet world, we are never sure whether the person is real or fake (heck, we have played a lot of jokes on our batchmates using fake names and fake ids).

What I did not expect was other people who have been frustrated by this group of spammers would get so riled up and start venting out their anger here. It was starting to turn ugly and I had to put an end to that... They have still persisted, perhaps in the hope that I will publish their comments but as far as I can see, they have written nothing new and so, there is no point in exhibitng them. So, they stay rejected.

Another thing that I noticed was their attempts to provoke me. it followed the similar patterns of hysterical people who try to rile up people for patriotic/religious purposes. Sadly for them, I had chosen to ignore them long before they came to my blog.

My purpose was never to engage in a dialogue with them because it would have been frustrating. And I think my purpose was fulfilled in that extremely long and drawn out comment spam series.

These guys are really a bunch of idiots that are not really worth my time. And thats all I have got to say about this matter.

You only publish comments to prove your point. How does that make you an unbiased and rational individual?

Anonymous said...

You may never understand the magnitude of pain inflicted on innocent people by false crimnal cases. You may never get around to believe that these kind of things happen to anybody regardless of one's socioeconomic or educational background. It may be because some people have not been as articulate as you in expressing their thoughts. It may be because you have never been subjected to that much pain or injustice. It may be a combination of these and other reasons. But to undermine the seriousness of other people's problems only because you have personal issues with some people is not a sign of education. Ignore people if you have to, challenge an individual if you have to but avoid making universal theories about problems you have no grasp of.

I only publish comments when you have something new to say. I dont like to see too many repetitive things being said. It just bores me and my readers, and it hampers the visibility of the comments that are really worth reading.

Anon 2, where have you been so far? You seem to have a better sense (and better knowledge of English grammar).

Though I disagree with you completely. it falls under the category of posts that accuse me of being too young and too naive. It is very easy to dismiss someone's arguments by saying, "you are too young and you have much to see of the world". Presumably, you have never raised a teenager (or have never understood one).

I dont have to defend myself, particularly to someone who prefers to be anonymous but there are somethings that need to be said.

You guys are so mind-numbingly arrogant and intolerant of people who disagree with because you believe that you are on the side of justice and the "good". You think that your cause is so noble and so justified that everybody must say cheers to you. That reminds of a group of people with whom I had disagreed before (in college).

And just to clarify further, my sympathies are always with people who have been victims of injustice. That is the reason I am a feminist. Of course, you would have an universal theory about how feminists are evil and tyrannical and men-haters. See how easy it is to make generalisations...

It may be because some people have not been as articulate as you in expressing their thoughts.

I think they have been articulate enough. Their choice of words hasnt surprised me at all. Have a look at the first comment above.

Ignore people if you have to, challenge an individual if you have to but avoid making universal theories about problems you have no grasp of.

I never made universal theories about any problem. I made an observation about a feature that was palpable throughout different posts made by different people (unless, you are willing to admit that they were the same person which would make that person sad as well as devious).

That's a generalization, Apurva. I think many people who posted comments were intolerable and arrogant (victims or otherwise). Whether or not one is a victim of injustice I do think that there are better ways to express oneself. I know some people do make it sound like the world is black and white and that they are flagbearers of all "good" on the planet. But for most people that's not true. In fact most people do not talk. They only work. That's why you have never seen me or those like me in your blogs. The only reason I was brought here is because I heard someone cut and paste one of my letters to an editor and I learned there were obnoxious comments about it. I could not help following the discussion and commenting. I choose anonymity only because it's what I say that should matter and not who I am. And if I may have sounded condescending at any point about you being "too young" I apologize because that's not what I intended. I respect people of all ages the same as long as they prove to be intelligent, rational and balanced. I know there are haters of men as well as women and then there are also haters of mankind in general. I am not one of those people and I don't think I ever made any comment about feminsts. I just wanted to point out that regardless of how people are expressing themselves it is important to recognize the real problem. It is very easy to get carrried away by personal prejudice (which may arise because of several reasons) and completely discount a person or a group of people (who don't really operate as a group in the way you perceive it). There are several people who are fighting to free themselves from the clutches of the same unfair laws. Some people are too angry to give anybody a benefit of doubt. That's where people who are educated (in the real sense of the word) should set themselves apart. It does not matter if you publish this comment or not as long as you read and understand. In spite of the best of my efforts if I sound instructive or disrespectful I ask you to please overlook it. Thanks.

I apologise, Mr Anonymous, for making certain presumptions about you. That was indeed wrong of me and you have pointed it out.

I made observations based on what I saw and what the flagbearers of this organisation that they call "Save Indian Family". I still dont see how fighting against this law makes them say that they are trying to save the institution called "Indian Family".

I know there are haters of men as well as women and then there are also haters of mankind in general. I am not one of those people and I don't think I ever made any comment about feminsts.

Good to know that you are not one of these groups. But may I ask about your views on feminism and feminists?

That's where people who are educated (in the real sense of the word) should set themselves apart.

And you have, inspite of being anonymous.

Good night.

Apurva, I do work with the group called Save Indian Family and make my own contribution to fight against the laws due to which innocent people are being arrested left and right without investigation. There are hundreds of members and most of them, I believe, are victims. One thing to be remembered is that everyone who has been victimized is VERY angry (including me) because entire families have lost their mental peace, all their money, some people have lost their careers and in some cases, family members. Some of us have a lot of other passions in life that we had to set aside and spend a lot of time now worrying about extricating ourselves from an apparent black hole. Different people respond differently due to stress and you have experienced some misdirected anger. The real discussions are happening elsewhere.

[I still dont see how fighting against this law makes them say that they are trying to save the institution called "Indian Family".]

Honestly, neither do I. Just like in any movement, different people PERCEIVE its objectives differently looking through their own colored glasses. But the actual as well as practically achievable goals are different. I don't think fighting against this law saves the "institution called Indian Family" nor does it resurrect what people refer to as "degrading Indian culture". Most of us would like this law to be reformed in order to save families from going through all the unnecessary trauma and suffering due to false criminal cases filed by women. We want innocent people to be free of legal hassles. We want intelligent and resourceful people of India to be able to contribute to the progress of various fields instead of wasting their valuable time, energies and thinking faculties on fighting frivolous lawsuits. We realize that there are genuine cases of harrassed women but the number of false cases is growing exponentially and something needs to be done soon.

[But may I ask about your views on feminism and feminists?]

When I was younger I used to consider myself a feminist. I grew up in a very traditional Indian setting where women are not really treated as individuals. I had to fight several battles like many women did/do and I responded (like a lot of people) to what I perceived feminism to be. I just looked up the Webster's dictionary and I found that one of the definitons of feminism is "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes". Going by this definition I would be called a feminist even now. But the only problem with feminism is that it has way too many connotations now. So, I refuse to subscribe to any such "ism". In spite of all the so called "progress" that women have made and all the laws designed to "empower" women, I still don't think many people (including fellow women and so called feminists) treat women as individuals even today. I think the reason this is so is because we have still not targeted the root cause of the problem. We make superficial fixes like reserving seats on buses, making biased laws and providing reservations for women in colleges and jobs. What these fixes tell me is that we believe women are somehow challenged and they need an unfair advantage over men to succeed. What I think women AND men need is education and awareness about their abilities and potential so that they will claim equal treatment in all arenas of personal and public life. Hope that answered your question.

P.S: By the way, I noticed that someone logged in as "anonymous" and wrote a comment in the name of "swarup". Only someone who is keen would notice this. To the person above my comment:
you said "Mrs. Anonymous
P.S: By the way, I noticed that someone logged in as "anonymous" and wrote a comment in the name of "swarup"."

See you are once again accusing a women (Mrs) without having any proof. Ok lets believe you for one moment and agree that swarup signs of as his name...bu then how are you sure its "MRS' and not a "MR"

"Only someone who is keen would notice this".
There you go again!!!!only someone who is infact KEEN to accuse a women for everything wrong illogically will jump to conclusions.

Also check in the previuos postings swarup as signed of many times as anonymous.

Why dont you agree that we have different views on this and sportingly accept there are different schools of thought.

There are more impt issues to be dealt with. I think you people only have one problem...people who dont agree with you, twist them and make them agree somehow.

And ya we know who swarup talks and what kind of language he uses, its no secret.

So please spare us and spare everyone. All the best in your cause.

I wrote to Apurva and signed off as Mrs. Anonymous. I don't know how that's accusing women. I don't understand what your issue is.

And by the way P.S. stands for postscript which means "a note or series of notes appended to a completed letter" i.e. after you sign off. Hope that clears up your apprehensions of me being very KEEN to accuse women.

Anonymous said...

Oh god

these people never give up. U will do anything for us to agree with you. why?

You violent beings only want to strip women and the poor of their legal rights and turn this into another afghanisthan.

The fact of the matter is few only few innocents are just hiding under one large umbrella.

People like swarup and his likes who are wife beaters and stubborn which is completely evident from his language, will be instrumental in the DOWNFALL of their association and so also the innocent will have to get scarificed.
Just like the way in Mahabharat karan, bishma, archarya were all killed only beucase they supported the wrong side even though they were doing their kartavya-duty.
Likewise, even if there are a few innocents in this association but their gaffe is that they are willingly support the much larger amt of violent people taking refuge behind them.

Common sense says that if you want to prove your point, come, say it, justify it logically and move on. But no...now they have sent someone else who has improved on his/her english tone and tanner to make the rest of us see their baised illogical point.

The threat issued above is just an ideal exmaple of their violence.

Probably they were not expecting Apurva to publish swarups threat. Therefore now this improvised language. Hard as you may try your perverted affairs will not get hidden.

This is secular democratic India and alot of honest people are yet there to fight for a real cause more impt causes that is the need of the day!
(not hear some filmy story on how a man and woman could not attend a funeral, on how someone killed someones kid, or someone was thrown in jail?)

A member of awesomeash group.

PS PS PS: we are yet waiting for this bharati guy to proove his statment on how IIT/IIM have become partial towards women and his ILLOGICAL observation like most loosers. How did he jump to such an erroneous and irrational observation????????????

Mr(s) Anonymous (still not sure of your gender),

It is very strange that someone who believes that women do get harassed (infact, 5000+ women get killed every year; even more are harassed and the mental peace of their families disturbed for unending years) would take up the fight to de-teeth a law that was designed as a deterrent for such cases.

But then I understand exactly where you are coming from. Let us just say that we agree to disagree and leave it at that.

By the way, I noticed that someone logged in as "anonymous" and wrote a comment in the name of "swarup". Only someone who is keen would notice this. Swarup, I observed, logs in as Swarup and signs off as Swarup. It looks like your blogs are being used by people to get back at each other rather than discuss a serious issue.

Yes, I noticed that too. But Swarup and gang have been abusive, with or without anonymity. And they have never tried to engage in a conversation and have abused anyone who disagreed with them. And there have been a lot of abusive posts from them that never made it past my comment moderation or were deleted. Plus, I dont think swarup is stupid, despite his abusive language and atrocious grammar. So, believe me, this was swarup (or one of his gang members).

Madhat said...

Anon 3,
Drop it, will you? I dont think being abusive is going to help anything.
They can make all the irrational statements that they want but once they are called on it, they just cannot justify them.

Apurva,

I don't think I could disagree with anyone regarding preventing abuse of women. But reforming a law does not always have to mean "de-teething the law"...that, according to me is just a catchy phrase some people have been using. We want measures to make sure that innocent families (which also include women) are not abused by false cases. I think it is possible to protect women without harassing innocent families. Unfortunately, there's big hue and cry upon the utterance of the word "reform" with reference to certain laws. It is quite likely that the law will not be reformed because vested interests will want to maintain the status quo. But we cannot stop trying because injustice in any form cannot be condoned. The question might arise as to why we are focusing only on this injustice while there are other forms of injustice too. Well, we have to pick our battles. We're directly affected by misuse of 498A and related laws, we are educated about the law and we cannot just sit around and wait for someone else to come to our rescue. So, we fight it...simple as that. Maybe one day if we are successful in this battle we'll fight some other injustice.

well too bad, what SIF,satya, sawrup and his gang of people have done is obvious who is having a scene with whom illegitimely.

That just prooves one thing---even if your innocent, then also being part of SIF will serve no purpose as its unbiased views exist and you never did anything to stop the criminals who are taking refuge behind the innocent. The end will be like that of bishma and karan.

If you may keep persisting on usage of appropriate language (go on google search, maximum results will showup of SIF and brother orgs with insolent language), where were you when they are yet having a field day on the very first comment of this post???

First threats, absues and now sweet talk that also fabricating genders only to proove a point!

Madhat said...

Mr(s) Anonymous,
So you wont agree to disagree, do you? You will never be able to convince me and I will not waste my energies on you beyond a certain point.

I think the other anon above asked very pertinent questions. Why are you associated with a group that purports to save Indian family when you do not believe in it? You might have been a victim but does that really give a reason to align yourselves with a group that is blatantly misogynist and shockingly rude and abusive (you have seen their posts and their websites), and still you come here and tell me that I may never understand the sufferings of the people punished by this law? Dont say that these are a few people and the real people are working silently; silent? silent enough not to understand that they stand with real ugly people? They say that a rotten apple ruins the entire stock; you are amidst a bunch of rotten apples and you want me to believe that you are not rotten?

Unfortunately, there's big hue and cry upon the utterance of the word "reform" with reference to certain laws.

Oh yeah! thats the politically correct term, isnt it? _reform_. Thats a pretty catchy phrase too. You want the offence to be made coumpoundable and bailable, dont you? But does it really stop people from making chakkars of the courts for some years if they do get implicated falsely? No, it doesnt. So, it really does not solve your alleged purpose. Will _de-teething_ the law so make sure that the process of the law doesnt punish the innocent? No, it doesnt. In fact, a lot of people get implicated (the number of undertrial in our jails is a big indicator of this) in false cases (the percentage contributed by 498a would be very small) and it is the slow process of the law that creates the major harassment. Not.The.Law. So, it is the process that needs reforming.

Even though you come out as a person who seems to be balanced by accepting that women are subjugated to dowry harassment, your course of action and the people whom you support does not suggest that. So, I take every word that you say with a pich of salt (thankfully, salt is not too expensive).

I wondered where swarup, bharati & gang learnt words like "Christina Sommers".

Anonymous said...

No, Apurva, you are mistaken. I did not come to your blog to convince you. That's not my job. I know what I am doing based on my convictions. It will take a while for me to explain everything but since that's not my mission I hope you realize that I will not waste my energies beyond a certain point either...there are important things waiting for my attention. I think everything needs to be taken with a pinch of salt until we find out all the facts. It is certainly a true sign of education. And first hand experience is a different ball game altogether. That's all from my side, folks. And thanks for the conversation, Apurva.

I forgot to say you raised a VERY important point. If you come up with better reforms to prevent innocent people from getting jailed without investigation and making chakkars to courts for years do write about it. Honestly, that's a very important issue. If you really do have better suggestions to make lives for people easier, write about them. I look forward to it. Thanks.

Thats rich! I know you understood what I said but still this?
It is sad that the only (seemingly) sane person from the SIF group runs when faced with tough questions (I did not expect any better from U). And hey, dont give me the first hand experience again. _IF_ you were victimised, my sympathies are definitely with you but I still would support the law because I dont trust you SIF guys.

For more than 6 mmonths sending mails to us abusing girija directly and sending mails to them also calling her a corrupt and pervert, 'terrorist'worker, various women orgs abusing them, what abt that?
Check the view comments section on NCW, some work of your guys is there for all to see. When writing a defaming autobiography on your spouse on your website and forwarding it us for reading then is that not defaming when the matter is subjudice in court? Sorry guy the laws are equal for all. 125 mails are there for more than 1000 people who have received it. Are you kidding? How on earth can some one put you in jail with out
doing any crime? Law is not so blind to put you in jail with out even
investigating the truth.... these where the words I initially told to
friend of mine who came to me crying and telling about how her
innocent family where cheated and harassed by her newly married
brother's wife.

I could not believe it is true that there is a law called IPC498a
under which police have to arrest anyone named even by a mad/mentally
retarded wife (wife gone wild) irrespective of investigating the
truth. Now, their entire family's future is under the mercy of this
mad wife's parents in exchange of huge lump sum. This is nothing more
than a legal rowdyism and rape. How on earth can anyone support this?
Is this not human violation? Can you keep quite if your unmarried
sister, aged parents and bed driven grand parents where jailed
innocently? Can you even imagine how they treat you while you are in
jail?

Whats new??
its the same thing ur harping on over and over agian. Drop it will you??

The wife goes MAD only after she has been harassed mercilessly by her husband , inlaws etc. Wife with children are thrown out of the house or burnt alive. If you would have taken some interest yrs back when most women were dowry victims and burnt alive then many lives could have been saved.

YOu feel bad for your friend who was in jail for a day but is alive today thankfully.

I feel bad for my relative who was killed because dowry was not given and today her parents are miserable and await death coz their only child got murdered.

How on earth can anyone kill anyone over money...only money..mere money ...petty money!!

NOw you tell me can you IMAGINE how it is to loose a child whom you love so much over money that is demanded by husband, old aged parents of husband, greedy unmarried sister and brother????
can you imagine how it is to get killed over money? how that must have hurt?

everyone has a right to live.

so drop it will you.

so you mean to ..

there is no problem if an innocent gets to jail by misuse of a law collaterally for other innocent person(dowry victim) is killed by bad people.

Where did you learn this law from? are you educated and knowledge enough about the world.

It is in cognizance of the law to make sure no innocent gets punished.

It is universal truth that..."let 10 criminals bet spared for an innocent"
Because of ppl. like you are thinking your war in India, situation is going out of control.

Draft 498a complex enough to both innocents(dowry victim/dowry law victim) should be spared from real criminals.

I think about dowry victim as you think. But 498a is stupidly designed enough that real problem multiplied 2 folds.

Anonymous said...

one more thing...again for you..

your friend is killed not for dowry, it is for her ignorance and illiteracy.

I know that women are not given property by her own brothers or father(even if she is not married)..what do you say about this?

Those ppl. who killed this dowry victim are non different from "BRUTALS" animal of the society. Design the laws in a way these brutal animals gets punished, not another inncoent.

Think before/and write.

Anonymous said...

read before / and then write applies to you.

Apurava and many others have already answered your question in very simple language but does not get through your thick skull.

Update yourself on womens property rights that are given legally to sisters and daughters these days since the past 10yrs. Gosh you are the illiterate one and ignorant too. LOL LOL...are you like that IIT fellow bharat from your group who ran away when asked for a logical explanation.

Stop thinking abt dowry victim....start feeling...maybe then you will realize.

Dear bloggers :-

My one request if you really want to stop swarup , you should stop discussing him in your blog .

Just go to google search and type swarup sarkar , you will understand why i am saying this .

And Apurva , as you said , swarup is not a stupid , he very cleverly , able to got huge publicity in internate .

The more we discuss about swarup , the more he will enjoy the same .

The type of word swarup used , normally gives us a kick in our blood and in return we react and he complete his job .

This I am telling from my own experence , after observing the happening in JAGO INDIA , how he almost closed that group , how he entered in that group and able to shift a lot of people to SIF .

Now a days i never allow his article to publish in my other group .

Just ignore him and fustrate him and you work your job , if we really fell there is some injustice and there is some way to give the justice to innocent people .

The fact is from the very first day of marriage the wifes start threatening the husbands and his relatives by threts of false cases. By telling them they have GOD like power to distroy his life, by false cases, by not giving divorce. Even if police understands this they can not do anthing. Feminazi's want untruth picture, ow can humans become so untruth like feminists , show one sided picture. Clearly marriage is breaking, children are suffering by improper training by mentally sik ( due to feminist press ) single mothers. Good truthful, idealist, social service men are forced to remain seperated in life.
